About SCCHEA
Who We Are
SCCHEA is a 501(c)(3) faith-based homeschool organization serving families in Hastings and the surrounding communities of south-central Nebraska. We are a group of families committed to educating our children with excellence, grounded in a biblical worldview, and supported by a caring community of like-minded believers.
Our Mission
SCCHEA exists to support and equip homeschooling families across south-central Nebraska by providing a cooperative learning environment rooted in biblical truth and a Christian worldview. We believe that God has entrusted parents with the primary responsibility of educating their children, and we come alongside families to share that calling through co-op classes, community events, and mutual encouragement. Our goal is to help children grow in wisdom, knowledge, and faith, and to give parents the tools and community they need to do that work with confidence and joy.
Statement of Faith
The South Central (NE) Christian Home Educators Association is made up of families from diverse Christian backgrounds that are unified and guided by these core beliefs:
- We believe there is only one living and true God who is One in being and eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (1 Cor. 8:6, John 14:26)
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God and is both fully God and fully man. (John 3:16, Colossians 2:9)
- We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His coming personal return in power and glory. (Matthew 1:22-23, Romans 8:34)
- We believe that God created the human race male and female and that all conduct with the intent to adopt a gender other than one’s birth gender is immoral and therefore sin. (Genesis 1:26-27; Deuteronomy 22:5)
- We believe that God has established marriage as an exclusive relationship between one man and one woman and that all intimate sexual activity outside the marriage relationship, whether heterosexual, homosexual, or otherwise, is immoral and therefore sin. (Genesis 2:24-25; Romans 1:18-31; I Corinthians 6:9-10, 15-20)
- We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor with the principles of this group.
- We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential for the salvation of lost and sinful people. (Romans 8:2)
- We believe that the Bible is God breathed and provides divine authority for Christian faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Member Covenant
The South Central Christian Home Education Association (SCCHEA) has been blessed to experience tremendous growth over the past years. Growing from a handful of families with limited activities to a group with over 150 families and a plethora of activities including Teaching Co-op and Sports has been a blessing but also leads to some challenging dynamics. In any organization, the potential for conflict and strife increases proportionally with the number of members and activities, and SCCHEA is no exception. To address this potential, the SCCHEA Board is adopting this biblically based Member Covenant and will be asking everyone who participates in SCCHEA activities to sign it every school year.
- I commit to honor God in my relationships, my actions, my speech, and my motivations and to fight against the temptation to engage in or promote gossip, slander or strife. (Colossians 3:17, Proverbs 15:1, 26:20-22)
- I commit to look for ways to bless, encourage and pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ. (Hebrews 10:24-25, Ephesians 4:29, 1 Thessalonians 5:11)
- I commit to endeavor to cast my pain and anxiety on the Lord instead of allowing it to fester and lead to bitterness. (Psalm 55:22, 1 Peter 5:7)
- I commit to make every effort to live in peace with other SCCHEA members and to allow love to cover over an offense. (Hebrews 12:14, 1 Peter 4:8)
- I commit to not giving the devil a foothold by forgiving others and not holding grudges or being resentful or angry against my brothers and sisters in Christ. (Ephesians 4:27, 31-32)
- I commit to obeying the precepts set forth in Matthew 18:15-17 when conflicts arise with other members, specifically obeying the three step process of reconciliation taught by Christ: go to the person personally, then with one or two non-biased Christians if needed, and finally bring the matter to the SCCHEA Board if resolution is still not reached.
